Pastries and Bread

If you want to enjoy some excellent local pastries, bread, or sandwiches for breakfast or lunch, you can walk/drive to Macrina Bakery, located a few blocks in the other direction on W McGraw St. near 7th Ave W, or hit one of several great spots on Queen Anne Ave, including Moonrise Bakery, Queen Anne Coffee Co, or Cafe Hagen.

Groceries

Our small neighborhood market is called Ken’s and is a few blocks away on the corner of 6^th Ave W and W McGraw. There are also a couple of bigger grocery stores – Trader Joes and Safeway – and a drugstore on Queen Anne Ave (8 blocks east of our place), or a Whole Foods down the hill in Interbay.

Farmers Market

If you are here over a weekend, the Ballard Farmers Market (on Sundays, 9am-2pm) is our favorite year-round spot for local produce and great food trucks and crafts. From June through October, we also strongly recommend the Queen Anne Farmers’ Market on Thursdays (3-7:30pm), which takes place on 1^st Ave West and W. Crockett St. next to the Queen Anne Community Center – it’s easy to turn this into a great Thursday night dinner plan, with options for every palate!

Local Restaurants

How To Cook a Wolf on Queen Anne Ave is probably the best in our neighborhood, but there are plenty of other places on Queen Anne Avenue that are great. Bounty Kitchen serves organic food and our favorite pizza place in Queen Anne is Zeek’s pizza.

Seafood and Sushi

For seafood, Ray’s Boathouse in Ballard is a popular spot with a view, with a casual café upstairs. Chinook’s at Salmon Bay is another favorite where you can stroll past the fishing boats. Moshi Moshi and Sam’s Sushi are great for families, and Shiku is a fancier, adults-oriented option.

drinks and cocktails

Bar Miriam on Mcgraw has custom cocktails and appetizers and is open until 10pm. Holy Mountain Brewery is an awesome, off-the-beaten track place just down the hill to drink locally made beer and hang out in a neat spot.
